Ingredients
For Koftay:
  • ½ kg Mince
  • ½ cup Chana daal
  • 8 Cloves
  • 4 Green cardamom
  • 2 Black cardamom
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 1-½ tsp Cumin crushed
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste heaped
  • 1 tsp Black pepper crushed
  • Salt 1 tsp heaped
  • 1 cup Onion chopped
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh Coriander leaves chopped
  • 4 Green chilies finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh cream
  • 1 egg
  • oil for frying
Ingredients for Tarka:
  • 4 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp Garlic crushed
  • 5 Whole red chilies
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
Ingredients for daal:
  • 1-1/2 cup Orange lentil (masoor ki daal)
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 1-½ tsp Chili powder
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ¼ cup Lemon juice
Cooking Method
To Make the Kofta:
  1. Put mince in a pan with Chana daal, Cloves, Green cardamom, Black cardamom, Cinnamon, Cumin, Ginger garlic, Black pepper, Salt, onion.
  2. Add 2 cups of Water cook for 40-50 minutes or until mince tender and all the water dries up.
  3. Let it cool then grind to a fine paste.
  4. Add Chili powder, fresh Coriander, Green chilies, cream, egg and mix well.
  5. Shape into smooth balls.
  6. Deep fry in hot oil until golden and keep aside.
To Make Daal:
  1. Boil daal with 4 cups water, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, salt and chili powder. Cook for 30-35 minutes or until tender.
  2. Let it cool and blend daal, add lemon juice, chopped green chilies and coriander leaves.
  3. Boil daal for 10 minutes until thickened.
  4. Add the fried koftas into the daal, lastly add tarka and stir well.
  5. Dish it out.
  6. Delicious Daal Mein Koftay is ready to serve.
Serving Suggestions

Serve with boiled rice.
