This Jalebi Recipe By Shireen Anwar is a popular Pakistani Dessert made with plain flour and sugar syrup. Served during festivals and special occasions, this traditional dessert recipe is loved not just by kids but adults too. This crispy sugary spiral tastes brilliant when served with piping hot milk or chilled Rabri.

Ingredients
  • 750 gm Flour
  • 3 gm Soda bi carbonate
  • 2 gm Cream of Tartar
  • Rung kat a pinch
  • Yellow food color as required
  • ghee for deep frying
For the Sugar Syrup:
  • 1/2 kg Water
  • 1 -1/2 kg Sugar
  • a few drops Kewra
Cooking Method
  1. In a large bowl, combine together 1/2 kg flour and sufficient water and make a smooth and pouring consistency batter .
  2. Cover and keep aside for 2 days.
  3. Add the remaining flour along with the soda, cream of tartar, food color and rung kat.
  4. Whisk well.
  5. If the mixture is too thick add a small amount of water.
  6. Heat sufficient ghee in a karahi on medium heat.
  7. Pour some batter onto a jalebi cloth, gather the edges and make a tight potli.
  8. Squeeze round spirals into the hot ghee.
  9. Deep fry, turning them over gently a few times, until they are evenly golden and crisp.
To Prepare the Sugar Syrup:
  1. Cook sugar with water in a deep non-stick pan on high heat.
  2. Keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Soak the jalebi in sugar syrup for 2-3 minutes then remove from the syrup.
  4. Take it out in a serving platter.
  5. Serve hot.
